Jura

Isle of Jura Distillery, a 10 minute ferry ride from the north east coast of its famous neighbour Islay, was reopened after a 62 year period of closure by two local landowners who wanted to bring employment to the island. Unpeated single malt was produced here until 2002 when a peated expression was introduced. The stills are unusually tall to produce a lighter style of malt. Jura itself is famous for its 3 ‘Paps’ (mountains) and as the location where George Orwell wrote 1984.
