700ML / 61.2% ABV.
Another of Bruichladdich’s heavily peated whiskies in their Octomore range, this time part matured in virgin oak.
Colour: Rich chestnut.
Nose: The sweet, smoky aroma is powerful but tempered by rich oak. Notes of dried fruit, raisin and apricot, then toasted bread, chocolate orange, coffee, coconut and buttery vanilla. There is a hint of barbeque and pine needles along with more fruit – green apples and grapefruit with a dusting of cloves and cinnamon.
Palate: Sweetness and peat smoke, almost medicinal in its character. The richness of toasted oak: exotic coconut and clove, lemon peel, caramel and Turkish delight. Orange blossom honey peppered with sweet spicy notes of cinnamon and clove.
Finish: Honeysuckle and rose mingle with liquorice and clove, dried dates and apricots. Honeyed vanilla released from the oak slowly fades, the smoke lingers for an age, competing with the sweetness of the oak.
